Calhoun County Community Ministries provides immediate help to Calhoun County residents and transients in need.  CCCM assists on an emergency basis with food, prescriptions, utility bill payments, and rent to prevent eviction, as well as baby formula, diapers, fans, and blankets when the need arises.

CCCM is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit tax exempt organization and a member organization of the Calhoun County United Way Agency.  Other sources of income include donations from individuals, churches and businesses in Calhoun County.

Most clients are the elderly or disabled who are on a fixed income or individuals who are unemployed or in low wage jobs.  Their monthly income may be just enough to pay the bills and any emergency situation will cause them to choose between paying the bills or buying groceries.

To receive assistance, a person must be a resident of Calhoun County or a transient, provide proof of income and bills paid within the last thirty days, and the name and age of all individuals living at the address whether related or unrelated.
Documents needed to complete the application include:

    • Driver’s License, Picture ID with current address, Work Visa, or Passport
    • Proof of income – one month of check stubs, copy of the letter from Social Security, SSI (disability), VA, Unemployment, Worker’s Comp., child support and/or pension information.
    • Bills in your name that were paid with monthly income, such as electricity, rent, gas, water, telephone, car loan, insurance, medications, etc.

Every year as the holidays approach, we will see an increase of applicants. Most needed donated items include peanut butter, cereal, hamburger helper, canned fruit, canned meat, shampoo, bar soap, and toilet paper.  Monetary donations will be used to prevent a family from eviction, help pay a utility bill, or help with cost of medications.  We also buy perishable food items such eggs, cheese, butter and hamburger meat for the Food Pantry.

Calhoun County Community Ministries manages both the Emergency Fund and the Food Pantry.

CCCM is located at 331 Alcoa Drive in Port Lavaca, Texas.  The phone number is 361-552-1722. The office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00am-12:00 noon.
